The Get Moving project aims to reduce homelessness amongst clients of Drugs Action Team services, removing the crisis of homelessness and creating a platform of stability to enable people to gain employment, training, learning and other life opportunities.
The project works with clients of the Drugs Action and Alcohol Team in Stockton who are at an appropriate point in their treatment to remove the barriers to secure and maintain appropriate accommodation in the private rented sector or social housing sector and to provide a stable platform to enable them to access employment, training and learning opportunities-closer to the “world of work”.
Referrals from DAT commissioned services-Must be ready and have identified barriers. Examples of barriers will include access to bonds, tenancy deposit, previous arrears, and affordability issues. Referrals must be able to make and keep appointments, i.e. not Chaotic, and be at an appropriate point in their treatment.
Appointment times – Mon-Wed - 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm or by arrangement with the Project worker.
The project will work with up to a maximum of 20 clients at any given point in time. This will be made up of a balance of people accessing the service for the first time and those who require increasingly less intervention. The service will include initial assessment, action planning, and an element of agreed (frequency, type, timed) ongoing support/resettlement activity once clients gain a tenancy.
A planned innovation of the project, linking the experience of Community Campus '87 and it’s Key Skills project is to renovate empty properties and provide both training and housing opportunities of DAT clients. The project has secured capital funding and is in it’s early stages of development (August 09)
